I'm dumb. Well I feel dumb.
I just found out what EV training is in Pokémon. I never understood that until the YouTuber Pokémon Challenges explained it while reacting to a Jaiden Animations Nuzlocke.
EV training is where you battle specific Pokemon in the wild, and you get a specific type of Ev from them: HP, Attack, Defense, and so on. Like in the video, with the Marills, you can get HP evs from them. Those evs can mean the difference between instance death and surviving what should be a 1 hit KO move!
I feel super duper dumb. My SoulSilver team are already trained to high levels. I could have been doing planned EV training to help them! To make full use of their strengths or help their weaknesses as much as possible, even if only a little. Instead, I have been training by wild Pokémon level to get them as much experience as fast as possible. DANG IT!
I mean yeah, I used the vitamins and the feathers (from black and white) and the Super Training (that one made the most sense to me out of all the games). And Poke Pelago on Isle Evelup of course.
But wild Pokemon Ev training, I never knew or understood. DANG IT DANT IT DANG IT!
At high levels like 45s, does Ev wild Pokemon grinding do anything at this point?
Started my very first Pokemon Nuzlocke ever! I chose SoulSilver because I wanted an earlier generation game to make it more challenging. Also I'm doing a role-playing game on HeartGold, and all the other games I am replaying normally, I worked too hard and too long to start over.
So far I have "Wes" the Totodile, "Eda" the Hoothoot, "Turkey" the Pidgey, and "Sarah" the Geodude. We haven't challenged the first gym yet, heading to Sprout Tower. Honestly the Pidgey was disappointing, I wanted Weedle. But Turkey is pulling her weight and she's growing on me. I'm just so relieved that Geodude was my first encounter in Dark Cave. That'll give me a type advantage for the first gym. I also messed up on Route 31, I was rushing to Dark Cave and missed my first encounter (which was a Rattata) so I can't catch anything on Route 31 now. Oh well.
Following the basic Nuzlocke rules:
1. Nickname the Pokemon
2. Catch the first Pokemon you encounter on the route. If the catch fails or the first Pokemon is rejected, you can't try again.
3. Change battle mode to Set.
4. Any Pokemon that faints is dead and can't be used again. (However, I'm not gonna release those that "die", they are just gonna stay in the box).
5. Can't use in-game trades, traded, or Legendary Pokemon. (I'm gonna let myself use gift Pokemon like the Eevee from Bill). (However, if I do choose the Eevee, then I can't get any of the Game Corner Pokemon and vice-versa because they are in the same city.)
6. All Pokemon on team getting defeated during a battle is considered Game Over! So I have to play smart.
7. Also can't go back to a previous save
(however I unintentionally broke this rule already, with my third Pokemon Pidgey. I forgot to nickname it, so I went back to the previous save right before, and caught another Pidgey despite this next "first" encouter was a Weedle because Pidgey was the legitimate first encounter of that route. That's how I got Turkey) I'm sorry, I won't do it again!
8. I know there's a rule that says "no healing items", however I'm going to use healing items. I'll use healing items and status cure items when the affected Pokemon is not in battle. So I'll have to switch out if I want to heal.
All this is taking a little time to get used to, but I'm looking forward to the challenge and I'm having a good time! I will do art again as soon as I get my iPad situation figured out. Or fall back on traditional drawing. Whichever comes first!
Hello everyone and anyone reading this journal!
-I hope this Monday finds everyone well. It's finals week although I don't have to take one of them because it's optional and I'm happy with my grade for that class.
-I've committed myself to getting used to Eclipse before the big day. It has it's ups and downs but then again all sites do, there's always something that can be made better or changed to make easier. But I am enjoying it regardless and plan on giving my page a makeover with the banner thing (as soon as I figure out what I want it to be).
-When this finals week is over, I plan on uploading some new pages to my Mystery Dungeon Comic. Been working on a short side comic, bringing an idea I've had for ages to life. Also a picture I've been working on as a gift for quite some time but had to put it on hold due to life.
-I'm also going to get back into video games: namely Monster Hunter World (had to put that on hold for a long while) and complete Mystery Dungeon (also on hold). I'm going to be putting up more screenshots of my adventures and include more games as the summer rolls in.
Hope everyone is hanging in there. Stay positive and considerate!
